ABSTRACT
The tomato production is of great importance for Brazilian population due to economic, social and
alimentary aspects. Growth of fruits in hydroponic systems represents a new stage in the evolution in
Brazil hydroponic. Experiment was carried out in hydroponic systems using the nutrient film
technique, aiming to evaluate the physico-chemical characteristics and the productivity of two
varieties of cherry tomato (Cascade and Sweet Million) growth in four nutrient solutions with different
electrics conductivities (2.0, 2.5, 3.0 and 3.5 dS m −1). The fruits were collected and evaluated the
number, size, yield and physico-chemical characteristics by analyses of pH, moisture, total solids,
total soluble solids, titratable acidity and lycopene. The cherry tomato productivity cultivated in
nutrient solutions with EC 3.0 and 3.5 dS m −1 were reduced around 18 and 34%, respectively. The
productivity of two hybrids tested did not present significant differences. The results of physicochemical analyses were around 40% higher for total soluble solid (6.2 until 8.4 ºBrix), and lycopene
results increased up to 50% (9.67 until 14.76 mg/100g). Comparing the results obtained in the
physico-chemical analyses with the four different nutrient solutions of growth, the respective yield, it
can be concluded that the best growth were carried out with the electrics conductivities nutrient
solutions of 2.5 and 3.0 dS m−1. The tomato plant fruit (Cascade and Sweet Million) cultivated in NFT
hydroponic system with the highest ionic concentrations of nutrient solutions presented the highest
results for TSS, lycopene.
